Comparing physician and nurse chemotherapy toxicity assessment

Nurse-led assessment of chemotherapy-related toxicities is poorly documented. This article describes an audit to compare toxicity assessment by nurses and physicians within an oncology centre. The overall aim was to verify the effectiveness of the toxicity tool used and to establish whether nurses could lead such assessments. The results suggest that experienced nurses can competently assess patients with chemotherapy-related toxicities, provided adequate training and guidance protocols are established.
