Dealing with uncertainty: caring for newly diagnosed prostate cancer patients

The emphasis on informed choice for patients raises important questions regarding the provision of adequate information about the choice of treatments for localised prostate cancer. It is imperative that nurses respond to the needs and concerns of men with this cancer since, as a group, men are known to be reluctant to discuss emotional or physical needs. They and their partners require assistance to prepare for the consequences of radical therapy. The purpose of this paper is to understand whether these patients are given sufficient information to make decisions about their medical treatment.
