Exudate management in fungating malignant wounds

Fungating wounds are caused by infiltration of the skin by a local tumour and/or recurrent or metastatic spread from a primary tumour. Only a relatively small number of cancer patients develop such wounds, with the consequence that few nurses have treated these lesions in practice. This article aims to add to the paucity of medical literature available on the assessment and management of these debilitating and painful byproducts of cancer.
