Clinical
Generalnurses’ perceptions of the role of the clinical nurse specialist in Ireland

Clinical nurse specialists have advanced knowledge of a specific practice area and should be easily accessible to patients. Such posts have long been established within health care, particularly in the United Kingdom and America, however in Ireland formal recognition of these posts is relatively new. Consequently, general nurses may have varying perceptions of the role and its benefits. This study aims to describe general nurses’ view of the purpose of the role in a regional general hospital in Ireland.
