Meeting the diverse needs of urological cancer patients

Urological cancers account for about 37,000 new cancers and over 15,000 deaths each year in the UK, mainly affecting men (Cancer Research UK 2002). With the incidence continuing to rise, these cancers are an important and increasing cause of morbidity and mortality, thus presenting a significant public health issue in this country. Indeed when considered as a group, these cancers are more common than breast cancer (Cancer Research UK 2002). The diverse nature of this group of cancers necessitates wide-ranging nursing care for patients.
