Nurse verification of expected death
<p>In English law, a doctor is required to issue a certificate detailing the cause of death. However, pressure on out-of-hours GP services has led to lengthy delays before the expected death of a patient under the care of the district nursing service can be verified by a doctor, causing distress to relatives and carers. This article discusses the development of a protocol for verification of expected death by nurses and its introduction intoa primary care trust.</p>
