Renal cell cancer: causes, prognosis, management and treatments

<p>Most patients who develop renal cell or kidney cancer can be treated with a radical nephrectomy. However, for those who present with metastatic disease, the therapeutic options are limited to interferon and interleukin-2. Response rates to these cytokine treatments range from 10 to 20 per cent but the drugs carry substantial toxicity. This article discusses the new biological agents currently in development for the treatment of kidney cancer.</p>
