<p>This article addresses cancer care in the community, exploring the literature in relation to the impact of diagnosis and the care needs of people newly diagnosed with cancer. Such persons have a variety of needs and an audit of one cancer support nursing service, one year into its operation, illustrates the range of these requirements. The varied structuring of services is explored and although these are diverse, continuity and appropriate services are concluded to be the most important aspects of care.</p>
