A team approach to palliative chemotherapy

Small cell lung cancer accounts for 20 per cent of the primitive lung carcinomas. The prognosis is unfavourable, since two thirds of patients present with extensive disease at diagnosis. The median survival without treatment is less than three months and chemotherapy is the standard front line therapy. This article describes a team approach to chemotherapy treatment at the cancer unit at the Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust. It follows a case study and shows how different members of the multidisciplinary team work together to ensure accessible patient-centred care.
