<p>Recently, the post of clinical placement coordinator (CPC) has been created in the Republic of Ireland as part of the new arrangements for educating student nurses. Students now study for a Diploma in Nursing Studies validated by a third level institute as well as for registration as general nurses. The course is 156 weeks long, of which the theoretical component comprises 58 weeks and clinical placements 86 weeks.</p>
