<p>Health care is undergoing rapid changes, and outcomes drive processes. While the basis for the integrated approach we now know as evidence-based practice was established centuries ago, only since the 1990s has evidence-based medicine (EBM) and evidence-based nursing practice (EBNP) emerged as a viable framework for positive clinical outcomes built on a substantial research base (Melnyk et al 2004, Mishel and Braden 1987).</p>
