<p>As part of my role as a nurse practitioner in a GP surgery, I am responsible for health promotion and for compiling practice protocols. A recent NHS initiative suggested that GP surgeries undertake health checks on patients identified as at risk of developing heart disease, stroke, diabetes or kidney disease.</p>
