Introduction to the pain series
<p>PAIN IS A COMPLEX phenomenon. What we experience as pain is the result of an intricate series of events in our body and brain, reflecting previous physical and emotional experiences of pain coupled with genetics, gender and culture. It is a subjective experience relying on patient self-report. It cannot be measured objectively.</p>
