Physical child abuse

THE LAUNCH of Full Stop, the latest antiphysical abuse campaign by the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC), aimed at recognising and reducing parental stress, will once again act as a reminder that physical child abuse continues in our so-called civilised society. According to figures produced by the Home Office, at least one baby under 12 months of age is killed every two weeks (BBC News 2000). For some parents, the campaign will open up old wounds. Perhaps for others, it will serve as a reminder of secrets and of guilt.
