While many work as researchers for nursing projects, there are far more nurses employed to assist with medical research, often in clinical drug trials. A nurse involved in research has a dual responsibility: to contribute to the progress that the research endeavours to achieve, as well as safeguarding the rights and interests of the patients (RCN 1998).</p>
