Ethics and communication: developing reflective practice

<p>One common and challenging communication situation faced by nurses is a family’s demand for information regarding the diagnosis of a relative. When caring for people with life threatening conditions, these challenges can be at their most intense (Maguire and Faulkner 1988). Family members often claim the right to know the diagnosis and prognosis of their relative. Their motives are based on what they see as the relative’s best interests.</p>
