<p> Aims and intended learning outcomes This article aims to examine the concept of rape, from a legal and sociological perspective and to explore society’s reactions to it. Women’s experience of rape will be discussed and an attempt to determine why men rape will be made. The implications for nursing practice will also be considered. This article draws on general notions of feminist theory, as attempts to understand the concepts and theories surrounding rape have been made mainly by feminist authors.</p>
