NHS pay rise: who decides what you’ll get, and how?

The annual pay rise for NHS nursing and other staff is set by government. But in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, the process starts with the NHS Pay Review Body (RB), which has the task of making a non-binding recommendation to ministers about what the percentage increase in Agenda for Change pay should be each year. The RB is a panel of experts that takes evidence from nursing and other staff in their workplaces, as well as from unions, government and others. We look at how the process works, and what happens in each of the UK countries.
