Could quitting caffeine improve your sleep and stress levels?
A care home trial to reduce caffeine intake among staff and residents has found improvements for participants in overall well-being, sleep quality, bowel function and blood pressure, as well as reduced staff turnover and falls among residents. Some of the nurses and other care home staff were drinking more than 20 cups of caffeinated drinks a day before the trial, but reported lower stress levels and improved sleep after giving up or cutting caffeine in the initiative. Staff attrition for the six months before the trial averaged at 21%, but dropped to 9% over the six-months after the trial’s introduction, with workers reporting improved job satisfaction.
