Statue of pioneering black nurse Mary Seacole outside St Thomas’ Hospital in London is defaced by vandals. Attack is condemned by Mary Seacole Trust, constituency MP, and the RCN. The memorial was the first in the UK to a black woman when it was unveiled following years of campaigning. There is now a crowdfunding appeal to help with the cost of the clean-up. Metropolitan Police are investigating and say they are not treating the incident as racially motivated.
