NMC cautions nurse for 'losing empathy' with patients in emergency department
Nurse Lindsay Burns received a five-year caution order after bodycam camera footage showed her using inappropriate language and restraining a patient face down while working as an agency nurse in the emergency department at the Countess of Chester Hospital. The nurse told one patient to: ‘Shut your mouth’ and held another face down, refusing to let them go to the toilet. A Nursing and Midwifery Council fitness to practice panel called her behaviour deplorable and serious enough to warrant suspension. But it said there were mitigating factors as she had shown insight and remorse as well as providing positive testimonials from colleagues and patients.
