ANP suspended from register for putting vulnerable patients at risk

Advanced nurse practitioner Julia Nixon was suspended from the Nursing and Midwifery Council register after multiple charges against her were upheld by a fitness to practise panel. The panel found the practice nurse had failed to make home visits that were clinically necessary, had not recognised patient deterioration, had not recorded a patient’s ‘red flags’ or taken appropriate action to safeguard the individual, and had inappropriately delegated a home visit to a healthcare assistant. In sanctioning her, the FtP took into account Ms Nixon’s record of good care over a period of years.
