Student loan write-offs could see nurses stay ten years longer
Nurses would stay in the profession for longer if they could exchange student loan forgiveness for years of NHS service, a report suggests. The RCN says cancelling nurses’ student debts would make nursing a more attraction career option and would improve student recruitment as well as subsequent staff retention. It wants the government in England to introduce loan forgiveness, suggesting a stepped approach that would mean 30% of a nurse’s debt would be written-off after three years’ NHS service, increasing incrementally with further service to a full write off.
