NHS pay, who negotiates it and why recent awards prove ‘no change’ is not an option

Nursing unions RCN, Unison and Unite have told England’s health and social care secretary Wes Streeting they are no longer prepared to engage in the NHS Pay Review Body process. They want direct access to ministers so they can negotiated in person with the government on improving pay and conditions for nursing and other health service staff on Agenda for Change contracts. Such direct talks already take place in Scotland, where nurses’ pay and conditions are more favourable than elsewhere in the UK.
