Is the grass really greener? The factors driving nurses to apply to work overseas

Number of nurses in the UK hoping to move abroad to work more than doubled in one year. Nursing Standard asks four readers what factors are driving this upward emigration trend. One nurse describes her experience of practising in the Middle East; a nurse who was educated overseas and immigrated to the UK explains the challenges and rewards of living and working in a foreign country. Another points to how the benefits of nursing overseas, for example higher wages, may not compensate for possible downsides, such as human rights concerns. Finally, a London nurse speaks up for why – despite the expense and stresses – she’s proud to stay in the NHS.
