Students

Should nursing students be paid when they are on clinical placement?

Paying nursing students while they are on clinical placements would ease the financial strain being felt by many, but might also risk undermining their education and supernumerary status, potentially turning learning into employed work. Our panel of nursing lecturers, a newly registered nurse and a third-year nursing student offer their views on whether students should be paid on placement, and possible alternatives such as bursaries, publicly funded tuition and student loan forgiveness.
