During the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, in many areas training for primary care staff could not take place face-to-face in a traditional classroom setting because of lockdowns and restrictions to social contacts. This affected the annual immunisation update recommended for immunisers in primary care. In response to the limitations placed upon classroom-based learning from COVID-19 restrictions, Public Health England issued guidance in June 2020 stating that during the pandemic immunisers could use e-learning, online and virtual methods to access the training they needed to stay up to date.

This article describes how a training provider has adapted to COVID-19 by changing the mode of delivery of the annual immunisation update for primary care staff in Essex and East Anglia, which form a large part of the NHS East of England area. Delivering the annual immunisation update via live online learning was found to be feasible and acceptable to attendees.
