Epilepsy is one of the commonest neurological conditions with a prevalence in the general population of around five per 1,000. According to Brodie and Schachter (2001) this equates to roughly 50 million sufferers worldwide. The condition occurs across all socio-demographic groups and in other animals, too.</p>
