Clinical
A fragrant message

Having been interested in massage and aromatherapy for many years, I decided to obtain a Diploma in Aromatherapy. This means I am professionally accountable and can use this therapy in my clinical practice. With the agreement of the headteacher at the local special school – who is enthusiastic about multi-sensory approaches – I set up a project using simple hand and foot massage with the pupils. I wanted to assess if aromatherapy massage could be used to invigorate the children and promote activity and alertness. I also wanted to help the children to relax, encourage interaction and communication and treat medical problems using natural substances (Harrison1995)
