music activities initiated by staff within services for people with intellectual disability

The literature on music and music therapy for people with intellectual disability is mostly written by music therapists and psychologists. However, the majority of those who actually initiate music activities in intellectual disability services in Ireland are nurses and teachers/trainers (Table 1). In this study, a questionnaire was sent to the people initiating music activities in Ireland with the aim of finding out what they are doing and whether they find music activities worthwhile. The purpose of the research was to compare what the research participants are doing with the literature in order to make recommendations for practice and set direction for future research.
