Protecting vulnerable people
<p>The Vetting and Barring Scheme is an assurance scheme that came into force on October 12 2009 as part of the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act 2006. It applies to England, Wales and Northern Ireland and will affect nine million people who work in health and social care, education, childcare, prisons, faith groups and the voluntary sector.</p>
