<p>Assertive outreach services were originally developed to engage an identified group of adults with severe mental illnesses living in the community (Sainsbury Centre for Mental Health 1998). It is a flexible, creative, person-centred approach which aims to meet the needs of individuals who have extra difficulties linked to their mental illness, and who require long-term, intensive support (Morgan 2000)</p>
