Involving service users in training in the management of aggression

It is important to involve service users and carers in the education of current and future mental health practitioners. Such involvement provides the students/practitioners with the opportunity to develop greater awareness and understanding through the unique insights of people’s lived experience of mental health conditions and their contact with mental health services. This article describes the experience of presenting a conference workshop to promote the valuable contributions to mental health education and practice that service users can make to the training of mental health nurses in the prevention and management of aggression and violence in the wards.
